Like most women, I have read “Men are from mars women are from Venus. I found the book quite interesting in that what people say is not always what is heard. But, whose read “Act like a lady think like a man”, from Steve Harvey. I found the book quite thought provoking for one particular reason. Although Steve Harvey has a few good points, the fact that he thinks women are and should be responsible for the actions of men is quite disappointing.
I truly believe and would much prefer a man who can and should be held responsible for his own actions. Why do men cheat? According to Mr Harvey, because they can. The implication being that women allow it. If you cut through the BS, he has a good point. However, when are MEN expected to take responsibility for their own actions? Men can cheat because women allow it.. But when should a MAN say, I will not do this, it is not right.
According to Steve Harvey, men respect standards and women need to get some. But, when are men supposed to develope standards? I realize that women are, mentally, the stronger sex, but should a man not have standards of his own? What is so wrong about a man with principles? At what point in his life does a man develop standards? It seems all too easy for Mr Harvey to say “Men are Men”. A bit like the good ole boys club, and imply that male behaviour is what it is, and women just need to work with that.
On a good note ladies, thanks to Act like a lady think like a man, I realize we have one less job to worry about. We no longer have to worry ourselves with teaching out sons to be men. It seems that is the sole responsibility of the lady he chooses to be with when he grows up. When we meet a man we have to make clear what our standards are. It appears, he never had anyone to teach him about a woman’s standards.
While reading the book I occasionally got the impression that Act like a lady think like a man was written to encourage women to conform to the ideas of men. The book does not always come across as something written for the benefit of women. However it does hold some very good information that women should be armed with. If you can get past the male “this is men” aspect, and read between the lines of the book you can actually gleen some interesting tips that are worth experimenting with.
By the conclusion of the book I was quite pleased to think that I act like a lady and think like a lady. I have a mind of my own. I do not feel the need to participate in certain behaviours, because I have a mind of my own. I am also woman enough to think that I may be wrong? sometimes. This book seems to have been written by a man for Men!!
